A BILL to amend the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, by adding thereto a new section, designated §18-2-25b, relating to setting certain safety standards for youth lacrosse; and requiring West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission to adopt certain safety standards for youth lacrosse under certain circumstances.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:


That the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, be amended, by adding thereto a new section, designated §18-2-25b, to read as follows:

ARTICLE 2.  STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION.

§18-2-25b.  Youth lacrosse safety standards in West Virginia.


All organized youth lacrosse leagues for female lacrosse players in West Virginia shall follow the National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment requirements with respect to the use of helmets for field players and goalies.  In the event that the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission has authority over safety in female lacrosse games, it shall adopt rules regarding safety that include the National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment requirements with respect to the use of helmets for field players and goalies.

 

NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to set consistent basic safety standards for female youth lacrosse in West Virginia.
